September 28-October 2
Hi Everyone,
Congratulations to everyone in the class for their role in the Orange Shirt ay Assembly. Students really took it up a notch when performing for everyone, and should be proud after performing to the other 400-some students, as well as the teachers and other grade three parents. We did a lot of rehearsing in the past couple weeks and our practice paid off.
Here are some other highlights from the week!
In math, students focused on completing an assessment that tested their ability to skip count by 3 and 4. Next week, we will wrap-up our skip-counting unit and focus on place value and representing 4 and 5-digit numbers. If you have time, continue practicing with your child by skip counting by 3 and 4 all the way until 90, and work towards knowing the numbers by heart. Once that skill is mastered, progress to counting by 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s. If you search up ‘toy theatre interactive hundreds chart’ on Google, you will find a terrific visual resource that allows you to see the patterns within the chart.
Within English Language Arts, we continued reading Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, and students had to pick out the key ideas from a couple ideas to create a summary in a few sentences. Additionally, we reviewed the phonic element of spelling certain words with double f, s, l and z. Ask your child if they can come up with one word that best meets each element.
In Science, students continued working on their activity log where they wrote/drew about what they do on the land, special places they have been to, and ways to care for the land. Additionally, ask your children about Blob/Disease Tag (the game we played in our Tuesday PE class). In Social Studies, we focused on conflict resolution which will relate to learning about treaties in the coming weeks.
Looking ahead to next week, we may go for a walk Thursday afternoon, linking it with Social Studies outcomes from the curriculum.
Additionally, next we have a lockdown drill on Tuesday and Wednesday is picture day!
Have a great weekend!
